What to wear?
General
Simplicity is key. We encourage both formal and informal clothing. From jeans to formal attire, it’s up to you, but please keep it consistent within the family group. I.e. either everyone in jeans, or everyone formal. Avoid bold patterns, bright colours, or excessive jewellery that tends to draw the eye away from the face when viewing a portrait.
Tops: Ideally long sleeves are best to help keep flesh tones of arms from competing with the face. Please bring along a selection of white/light colour tops, and a selection of black/dark colour tops. Dark tops are generally best on location as dark is slimming. If we're photographing a family please be consistent, i.e. everyone needs a dark top, and everyone needs a light top.
However in saying that, please feel free to bring your favourite top or outfits, any style/colour/pattern, particularly if children are involved. We all have personalities and there’s plenty of time!
Groups:
Selecting appropriate clothing for groups is a little more difficult. Too many different colors and patterns will cause clutter, and you won't be able to "see" faces. No one person should dominate the portrait. It's important for groups to harmonise color and style, all formal or informal.
Make-up should be worn as usual. An extra coat of mascara will enhance your eyes, and a little color on the cheeks will provide a lovely glow. Be sure to bring along your make-up and comb for last-minute freshening. Men should shave within a couple of hours of the portrait session to avoid the five-o'clock shadow.
Beauty Sessions - Females:
- A couple of white/light coloured tops or outfits
- A couple of dark/black coloured tops or outfits
- Something colourful
- And if you like, something sexy
- Your foundation
